Central Oregon is famous for its destination resorts. Choose from five resorts in all, each offering their own lodgings, activities, and dining opportunities.

Sunriver Resort and Black Butte Ranch are the grand dames of the region, having catered to locals and visitors alike for more than 40 years. They’re famous for good reason: Both offer a variety of lodging options—suitable for couples and extended families alike—and both have amenities to please just families of all sizes.

Sunriver delights with a marina, horse stables, three golf courses—one of which, Crosswater, was named one of the United States’ top 100 courses by Golf Digest—and two aquatic complexes with slides and lazy rivers; the resort also sits surrounded by roughly 40 miles of paved bike paths, offering easy access to family-friendly restaurants and bakeries. And set against the backdrop of the Cascade Mountains just eight miles from Sisters, Black Butte Ranch hosts plenty of activities for the whole family—including horseback riding, two golf courses, five swimming pools, and a top-notch spa.

Another incredible resort, Juniper Preserve sits just 30 minutes from Bend. The resort embodies Central Oregon in a variety of ways—through landscapes dotted with ancient juniper trees and rocky lava flows, rooms adorned with color schemes that reflect the region’s high desert, a pair of golf courses (one of which, the Jack Nicklaus Signature Course, was named a Top 100 course by Golf Digest) that show off epic views, and a world-class spa that encourages a relaxing stay.

Tetherow, meanwhile, is a posh resort just minutes from downtown Bend. Here you’ll find an 18-hole, links-style golf course (recently named a Top 100 course by Golf Digest), boutique hotel rooms, cozy vacation rentals with outdoor fire pits, a heated outdoor pool, and plenty of other welcome amenities.

If you’re looking to expand your horizons, Brasada Ranch is a luxury resort that delivers on all the details. This spot, tucked into the tiny farming community of Powell Butte, has a variety of lodging options, including the Ranch House’s adults-only suites (boasting hot tubs and private patios) and houses that can accommodate up to 16 guests. If you’re visiting with family, you’ll enjoy the pool and slides—and if you’re looking for some R&R, you’ll appreciate the adults-only pool area.

FivePine Lodge and Spa in Sisters is the perfect mix of rustic lodge setting and big-city amenities. Cozy, private cabins, many with fireplaces and soaking tubs, amp up the romance factor. Around the FivePine campus, you will find the world-class Shibui Spa, a great spot for a couples massage or sugar scrub. And with FivePine in the heart of Sisters, nearby brewpubs, eateries, shops, and art galleries are just a quick walk away.

Suttle Lodge and Boathouse, west of Sisters, offers a dreamy mix of cozy cabins and rustic lodge rooms—but with fine dining and craft cocktails that make you feel like you’re in the big city. Rent a paddleboard at the boathouse and head out on Suttle Lake for some solitary quiet time, then spend your evenings in the lodge listening to live music.
