Spring Break Getaways: Central Oregon

Downtown Sisters, Oregon

You’ll find a mix of ski, sun, spa, and golf.

We are entering what many locals lovingly call Central Oregon’s “shoulder season.” Ski traffic is tapering off and the weather is just starting to give us a glimpse of the beautiful summer season we have ahead. This in-between snow and summer is the perfect time to visit Central Oregon. The frogs are starting to croak, the birds are singing, spring bulbs are blooming, geese are flocking, barbecues are being cleaned and tested—there is a serene beauty at the advent of a new season and a promising excitement for the bounty of warmth, music, events and fun that will soon be here.

Wondering what you can do in Central Oregon at this time of year?

Pack your bags for the Sisters, Oregon area and get ready for a peaceful spring getaway.

Shop and Dine in Historic Sisters

Visiting Sisters is like stepping back in time, although the shops in this 1880s western themed town are anything but old-fashioned. Antique shops, specialty stores, art galleries—there’s something for everyone and any visit to Sisters must include a day of window-shopping around town. And remember, no sales tax in Oregon! If you are a cyclist, check out the McKenzie Pass Scenic Bikeway (among some of our other scenic bikeways.) McKenzie Pass does not typically open to vehicles until July but the roadway often opens earlier in spring for cyclists. Pack a lunch and enjoy a safe and quiet day trip up and down the pass on two wheels.

Golf with Cascade Mountain Views at Black Butte Ranch

Black Butte Ranch is one of those places you can call “magical.” Its setting, nestled in the tall pines just past Sisters, Oregon, boasts 1800 acres of protected Oregon wilderness and splendid vistas of the Cascade Mountains. With two scenic and challenging 18-hole courses and sculpted fairways with unparalleled views, it also offers golf like no other venue in the area. Pair 18 at Black Butte Ranch with 18 at nearby Aspen Lakes Golf Course for a spectacular 36.

Black Butte Ranch is also part of our Legends Collection, representing some of the best golf in the country.

Reconnect with yourself and with friends at FivePine Lodge

Inspired by their dream of an inn where guests reconnect with themselves and the ones they love, the Willitts family created FivePine Lodge & Conference Center. Nestled in a majestic Ponderosa pine forest, the lodge is wonderful for self-discovery and rekindling relationships. Within walking distance you’ll find the Sisters Movie House, Three Creeks Brewing, and Shibui Spa.

Doesn’t that sound like the perfect combination for a girls’ trip?

Ski Hoodoo, There’s Still Time!

Yes, really! You can still ski at Hoodoo Ski Area. Get your last turns in before they close for the season.

No matter what you do on your spring getaway in Central Oregon, we guarantee it will be fun, peaceful and full of some of the most iconic signs of spring. Listen for the frogs!
