Bend Area Fat Bike Tours Begin
In Central Oregon, we’ll do just about anything to be able to ride our bikes all year long. And we usually can. While the snow flies in the higher elevations, there are plenty of mountain bike trails lower and east of the mountains that are rideable 12 months a year. And the die hard road cyclists will push the pedals in just about any weather above zero degrees.
But some riders want to experience the best of both worlds – the quiet solitude in the high mountains after a fresh snow and the adrenaline of Central Oregon’s amazing mountain bike singletrack. Enter Fat Bikes and Cog Wild Mountain Bike Tours and Shuttles.
The Bend business has for years offered amazing guided mountain bike rides and shuttles, but last year added half day Fat Bike tours at the sno-parks along the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway near Mt. Bachelor. They’re excited to offer more tours this winter!
Travel Oregon recently highlighted the tours in this article on their website. You can also check out this first person account of Fat Biking and this Bend Bulletin story on the increasing popularity of the sport.
Local shops like Hutch’s, Pine Mountain Sports and The Hub Cyclery rent Fat Bikes if you want to get out and explore on your own. You can ride them just about anywhere in the sno-parks but try to avoid riding in the classic nordic ski tracks if you see them.
