Central Oregon is known for its luxurious – and family friendly – destination resorts. Places like Sunriver and Black Butte Ranch have been welcoming generations of families for generations while newcomers Pronghorn and Tetherow are quickly becoming go-to basecamps for adventure.

But many Central Oregon visitors are heading our way for experiences outside their comfort zone. Maybe it’s a car-camping or rustic cabin experience up at Elk Lake Resort or a quick overnight yurt experience within the city limits at Tumalo State Park.

But there are two new lodging experiences in the region that are sure to become a hit with visitors looking to get off the grid – while still being able to sleep on a bed.

Panacea at the Canyon is the definition of “glamping.” This 40-acre destination spa near Smith Rock State Park experience offers one-of-a-kind lodging in custom safari tents from May through October. Lodging is paired with holistic treatments, organic goodness, activities and premier hospitality.

Panacea offers seven splendid non-smoking Stargazer Luxury Tents with en-suite bathrooms for your comfort, indulgent spa services for the ultimate experience in relaxation and personal well being.  Heal your body from the inside in enjoying fresh and delicious Farm-to-Table dining options.

In addition, the resort offers a diverse array of workshops and activities to choose from such as hot air ballooning, rock climbing, archery, horseshoes, slacklining, yoga and meditation, nature trails, birding, live music and lawn games, stargazing, fireside stories and outdoor movies on the weekends.

It’s a perfect home base to explore nearby Smith Rock State Park or ride the scenic bikeways or horseback trails in Central Oregon.  Try your hand at fly-fishing or ride the rapids in whitewater rafting.  Enjoy jet ski and pontoon boating at nearby Lake Billy Chinook.

What’s more? Panacea is a signal-free sanctuary. You have to hand over your cell phones and computers at check in so you can TRULY disconnect (while you truly reconnect with your loved one.)

If a more “rugged” camping experience is what you’re after, Bend Westy has you covered.

Bend Westy provides vintage, Volkswagon Vanagon camper vans and other classic campers you can rent from three to 14 days making it perfect for a long weekend or a true, extended backcountry getaway.

All rentals come equipped with a Drive Kit, Eat Kit, hitch rack receiver, and basic roof rack. They also have sleeping bags, tents, pads and more available for rent if you need them. With Bend Westy in Central Oregon, the camping destination options are endless.
