The High Desert Museum invites you to “Raptors of the Desert Sky”. Raptors take flight overhead in this intimate demonstration. Experience these powerful predators up close as wildlife specialists showcase the birds’ agility and grace. This program is a highlight of the Museum’s summer experience. Hawks, owls, falcons and turkey vultures soar from perch to perch directly over the crowd seated in a natural amphitheater nestled in the Museum’s pine forest. A Museum expert narrates the action and shares about the hunting strategies and natural behaviors of these spectacular birds of prey.

Art in the West is an extraordinary exhibition of traditional and contemporary art that will open at the High Desert Museum on July 19th. Art in the West is also a silent auction and features an array of price points. View the art gallery guide online. The exhibition opens on Friday, July 19th with a reception at the Museum from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. This free event offers the public a first viewing of the exhibition as well as the chance to mingle with some of the artists. Silent bidding will begin that evening, and there is also the opportunity to purchase artwork outright. The bidding culminates on Saturday, August 24 at the 30th annual High Desert Rendezvous, the Museum’s signature fundraising
Join High Desert Museum staff on an exciting evening expedition in search of bats. You will walk through the museum grounds using echolocator equipment to help find these elusive creatures. Bring weather appropriate clothing and a flashlight or headlamp for this after hours exploration. Registration and pre-payment are required.
Come to the High Desert Museum and see how a REAL sawmill runs. Full steam ahead! Discover how critical this steam-powered sawmill was to homestead families on the High Desert while seeing it in action. The Lazinka Sawmill is located on museum property at the Miller Homestead Ranch.. Free with admission.

The High Desert Rendezvous is one of the MOST exciting events of the year! Don’t miss the 30th anniversary of this festive benefit that helps support the Hight Desert Museum’s educational programs. Festivities begin at 5:00pm with a reception, silent auction, gambling and a hosted saloon followed by dinner, live auction and live music from The Bucklys. Be sure to polish your boots because there will be dancing! It’s a night not to be missed…
It is also the last opportunity to bid on a piece in the juried Art in the West exhibition. Art in the West is an annual art exhibition and silent auction. This juried, invitation-only, national exhibition showcases the inventive and varied ways in which artists respond to the people, landscapes, history and wildlife of the High Desert.
