8 Places to Drink (Beer) in Bend – An Expert’s Take

When you’re home to nearly 30 craft breweries, you become a destination for travel writers wanting to write about the beer scene. And while a good deal of people like a unique, well-crafted beer, there’s actually a few people out there who are actually “professional” beer drinkers.

These Certified Cicerones, according to Cicerone.org are those who have been certified “to have a deep and well-rounded knowledge of beer and beer service as well as competence in assessing beer quality and identity by taste.” (Apparently just drinking a lot of delicious Bachelor Bitter from Deschutes Brewery doesn’t qualify one as an “expert.”)

So it was with great joy to read how much Josh Ruffin, a Certified Cicerone (aka: professional beer drinker) from PasteMagazine.com enjoyed the beers (most of them) at the eight spots he tried during a recent press trip. Check out his story here.

We have our favorites too. Here’s our guide on Where to Go and What to Order at Central Oregon’s breweries.
