The Seven Wonders of Oregon: Smith Rock

Whoever named the Seven Wonders of the World never scaled Smith Rock.

They didn’t see its towers of volcanic ash, which rise like the spires of a cathedral out of the sage and dust of the high desert. They didn’t climb a single one of its thousands of routes, which attract climbers from every part of the globe.

And really, they could have come anytime, because Central Oregon boasts 300 days of sun a year.

So they missed out on golfing its two dozen golf courses, mountain biking Phil’s Trail and paddle boarding the Deschutes.

No caving or camping or hiking. No skiing or ‘boarding Mt.Bachelor.

They didn’t drink any of the beers brewed in Bend, or relax in Sunriver, or explore where the astronauts trained to walk on the moon in between.

If whoever named the 7 Wonders of the World wanted to unwind, they would have come out this way. But they didn’t, which makes us wonder if they even went to Oregon.

So we see your Seven Wonders, world. And raise you 7 of our own. And we invite you to come experience them. The 7 Wonders of Oregon. See one or better yet see them all.
