Special Olympics Oregon hosts its annual Polar Plunge in Riverbend Park, sponsored by Lithia & Driveway, to raise money for its year-round sports training for athletes with intellectual disabilities.
Polar plunging has become increasingly popular, and the majority of proceeds go to opening more opportunities for Special Olympic athletes. It provides opportunities for over 5,000 athletes across the state, through basketball, swimming, and soccer and bowling. There's a lot of different activities that these athletes get to participate in."
There will also be a 5K fun run before the plunge which starts and ends at Riverbend Park. The run begins at 10 a.m. followed by the polar plunge at 11 a.m.
Participants may partake in both the plunge and the 5K or either one of the events.
