Join the Deschutes Land Trust, Daniele McKay, and Tom Wainwright to explore the geology and plant life of Paulina Creek Preserve. Learn more about the geological processes that formed the landscapes around the Preserve and how they shaped the plant communities that are present. We'll dig into the history of Newberry Caldera and surrounding areas and explore the ways that lodgepole pine forests are connected with volcanic soils, the importance of floods in forming Paulina Prairie, and the possible relationships of water chemistry and plant species distributions. Registration is required  Hike Rating: This is an easy 3-4 mile hike on dirt and gravel roads. Route: This hike will start at the Paulina Creek Preserve parking area and follow dirt and gravel roads. Terrain will be uneven at times. Elevation gain/loss: There is very little elevation gain/loss on this hike.
