IN A LANDSCAPE: Classical Music in the Wild™ is an outdoor concert series where America’s most stunning landscapes replace the traditional concert hall. Guests explore the surrounding environment while listening to the music through wireless headphones, creating an immersive experience that fosters a connection with the music, nature, and with one another. Explore the full 2024 series at this link. Towering above the sagebrush desert sits Fort Rock State Natural Area in Fort Rock, Oregon, a caldera created when a volcano erupted under what was once an inland sea. Waves lapped against the rock creating caves in which anthropologist Luther Cressman discovered an ancient collection of ten-thousand-year-old sandals in 1938. The piano will be situated in the open area on the eastern side of the bowl, slightly below the site of our past concerts. Oregon's Poet Laureate, Ellen Waterston of Bend, will join us as guest artist to read a poem commissioned for this event. Come early for a visit to the Fort Rock Valley Historical Homestead Museum (ticket included with your purchase), a collection of original homestead era buildings including a church, school, houses, homestead cabins, and several other structures in a village setting. After the concert, follow Hunter down to the Fort Rock Grange for our 2nd annual Pie Social and “Barn” Dance featuring live country & folk music by Wampus Cat! Pie & ice cream will be available for a $5 suggested donation, with all profits going to benefit the Fort Rock Grange and their community activities.
