At the base of the Three Sisters, Central Oregon’s volcanic peaks, Aspen Lakes Golf Course is a perennial favorite among visitors and locals alike. Located in Sisters Oregon, Aspen Lakes Golf Course is a 7,300-yard W.L. Overdorf design known for being a great test of golf in one of the region’s most breathtaking settings. But be careful in becoming too distracted by the beauty, lakes and ponds come into play on more than half the holes. The perfect bent grass fairways and greens and unique bunkers made of crushed red volcanic rock contrast with the snow-capped peaks that seem to hover right over the course.
Aspen Lakes Golf Course is a privately owned, public golf course in Sisters, Central Oregon. With the most scenic views, unique red sand bunkers and world-class staff and customer service, whether you are a local or when you visit Central Oregon, we think you’ll agree Aspen Lakes is a don’t miss venue!
The concept for Aspen Lakes Golf Course in Sisters Oregon, began in 1988 when the Cyrus Family acquired a 1,084 acre parcel adjacent to their family farm. The first nine Aspen Lake golf holes were constructed in 1996 under the watchful eye of World Class golf course architect William Overdorf. He worked with the existing site to sculpt this incredible mountain view golf course into the existing Central Oregon landscape. As important natural features were identified during construction, the plans were modified to incorporate them into the golf course rather than destroy the feature.
The second nine Aspen Lakes golf holes were opened in 1999.The signature red sand for the bunkers originated on the Cyrus property. When it came time to install the bunkers, it was discovered that the “normal” sand that the other central Oregon golf courses use is hauled in from other states. In looking at alternatives, it was decided that it would be more environmentally friendly to use local materials already in Central Oregon. Red cinders that occur naturally on the Cyrus property were crushed down to make sand. The deep red sand creates a visual delight as it contrast with the green grass, blue skies and white, snow covered, mountains that are the Aspen Lakes Golf Course signature.

IN A LANDSCAPE: Classical Music in the Wild is an outdoor concert series in stunning landscapes that showcase Oregon industry, history and culture. We bring a 9-foot Steinway grand piano to the middle of forests, fields, calderas and historical sites for classical music concerts. To meet the acoustical challenges of performing in the wild, music is transmitted via wireless headphones. No longer confined to seats, you can explore the landscape, wander through secret glens, lie in sunny meadows, and roam old growth forests. Event Schedule
In the spirit of the Works Progress Administration’s (WPA) Federal Music and Theatre Projects, which presented thousands of free concerts and plays in theaters, public spaces and parks across the country during the Depression, IN A LANDSCAPE events are offered primarily in rural communities for free or on a donation basis.
Classical pianist and native Oregonian Hunter Noack uses literature, visual art, dance, drama, and design to create a more dynamic classical music experience. Winner of the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition, the coLABorate Award in London, Moritzburg Audience Prize in Germany, and director of numerous cross-arts collaborations in the U.S and Europe, NY’s Rising Star Piano Series calls Hunter “a true artist in a renaissance sense of the word.” Raised in Sunriver, Oregon and is now based in Portland, Oregon, Hunter most recently created “In a Landscape: Classical Music in the Wild” with government support from the Regional Arts & Culture Council, just as millions of Americans from 1935-1943 were hired by the U.S. Work Projects Administration (WPA). Timberline Lodge, one of the series’ seven venues, was built during this program. The WPA also employed over 40,000 musicians, artists, writers, actors and directors to complete individual cultural projects as part of the WPA’s Federal Project Number One. Seventy-some years later, “In a Landscape” is Hunter’s testimony to the possibilities for public benefit when society supports the visions and productions of individual artists.

The visitor center includes a bookstore, educational films, a 3D map of the area and rangers on hand ready and willing to talk to about the geological wonders of Lava Lands and the expansive monument.
Right outside the visitor center, enjoy a self-guided tour of the 7,000 year old lava flow formed by Lava Butte’s eruption. You can hike up to the top of the butte for some amazing views of the surrounding area, but be careful because there’s no trail. You have to walk up the road, which, at times, can be congested.

Oregon’s largest outdoor concert venue shines along the Deschutes
Built in 2001 and named in honor of one of Central Oregon’s most successful entrepreneurs – you might have bought tires from one of his stores – the Les Schwab Amphitheater has quickly become one of the premiere venues in the Pacific Northwest to see live music.
Located in Bend’s historic Old Mill District, the LSA boasts an all-grass infield and scenic views of the Cascade Range along the Deschutes River. The largest outdoor concert venue in the state, the Amphitheater can hold approximately 8,000 concertgoers. The LSA has drawn living legends such as Ringo Starr, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon and Willie Nelson as well as artists who are shaping the sounds of their own generation like Jack Johnson, the Avett Brothers, The Roots and Brandi Carlile.
Nestled right in the heart of Bend, the Amphitheater also plays host to numerous community events. The Bend Brewfest is held every year at the Amphitheater during the third weekend of August and the classic Pole Pedal Paddle race – individuals and teams ski, bike, paddle and run their way from the Mt. Bachelor Ski Area into Bend – finishes in its infield. And in partnership with the North Pole, the Les Schwab Amphitheater welcomes Santa the day after Thanksgiving, providing landing ground for his helicopter before he is whisked away to SantaLand in the Old Mill District.
Set on the beautiful desert highlands of sunny Central Oregon, amidst sparkling blue ponds, rock-rimmed buttes and green meadows, Meadow Lakes features a championship course, a beautiful clubhouse, and a friendly staff eager to make your round of golf an extraordinary experience. Meadow Lakes has been featured in the USA Golf Journal and is one of the first-ever recipients of the Golf Digest National Environmental Leaders Award.
Many other golf courses have been modeled after the project completed by the City of Prineville. Meadow Lakes is an active municipal golf course that has hosted two Oregon Amateur State Championships, including the 1998 Oregon Mid-Amateur Championship. Word has certainly gotten out that this waste-water treatment facility is also a great golf course. Golfers come from all over the Pacific Northwest to play the golf course that they have read and heard so much about. The challenging and enjoyable layout, designed by Bill Robinson, keeps the golfers coming back.

A Resort On The Lake of the Newberry Crater
Scenic beauty, camping and water recreation at its finest in the High Desert when you stay at the Prineville Reservoir State Park. Mountain waters flowing out of the Ochoco Mountain Range join to form the Crooked River. The river, confined by its canyon and the Bowman Dam, forms the 15-mile long, 3,000-acre Prineville Reservoir State Park. With two developed campgrounds and numerous primitive camps along its 43-mile shoreline, recreational opportunities are plentiful.
The fishing can be good anytime at Prineville Reservoir State Park. The lake supports rainbow trout, small and largemouth bass, catfish, crappie, and crayfish. The trout fishing experience is year-round, with the biggest fish being caught during the winter months either by boat or from the shore. The bass, catfish and crappie fishing is best between May and October.
Other recreational activities include waterskiing, wakeboarding, windsurfing, paddle boarding, kayaking, hiking, star gazing and wildlife viewing.
There are numerous year round camping opportunities within the state park on the reservoir. In the developed areas there are deluxe cabins with full amenities, full hook up RV sites and tent sites. Flush toilets and hot showers are also available. For those who like to rough it, there are many primitive drive in and boat in campsites around the reservoir as well.
This oasis in the High Desert is waiting for you so come out and enjoy the fun!
Two campsites and two cabins are accessible to campers with disabilities.
As part of the Crooked River Federal Reclamation Project, the Department of the Interior authorized the construction of Bowman Dam between 1958 and 1961. The project’s purpose was to furnish water for irrigation, flood control and fish and wildlife management. Through the Crook County Court, and a lease from the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, the land for the park was obtained in 1961. A lease agreement between the Bureau of Reclamation and the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department allows the State to manage and maintain the natural resources and recreational uses on the reservoir.
