About Shaniko
Shaniko is one of Oregon’s most captivating ghost towns. Once a thriving wool-shipping hub in the early 1900s, the town’s boom faded leaving behind a scatter of abandoned buildings frozen in time. Today, those same structures make for some of the most striking and photogenic backdrops in the region.
Shaniko’s remote setting is part of its charm. The surrounding area is remarkably dark and quiet, with nearby Antelope earning recognition as Oregon’s first International Dark Sky Community in 2024. That means star-filled nights are practically guaranteed here, no telescope required!
