In A Landscape: East Lake Resort

Date August 20, 2026
Time 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM

IN A LANDSCAPE returns to Newberry National Volcanic Monument for a concert on the shores of East Lake near La Pine, Oregon. The monument sits within the collapsed caldera of Newberry Volcano, where eruptions over hundreds of thousands of years formed two crater lakes—East Lake and Paulina Lake—along with obsidian, pumice, and the Big Obsidian Flow, the youngest lava flow in the Pacific Northwest. Trails and pullouts throughout the monument make it easy to explore this concentrated volcanic landscape.

The concert takes place right along the shoreline at East Lake. Bring a chair to the beach, launch a kayak or canoe (no motorized boats), or stand at the water’s edge as the piano sits unexpectedly at the center of it all—set against a lake better known for fishing, swimming, and long summer days outdoors.

Our concert host, East Lake Resort, sits just steps from the concert site and offers a collection of rustic lakeside cabins that make it easy to stay close to the water before and after the performance. Camping is also available nearby at Cinder Hill Campground.

This concert takes place on the unceded ancestral lands of the Cayuse, Umatilla, and Walla Walla peoples.
