Exhibition Opening: Coyote Encounters: Art Inspired by a Storied Earth

Coyote Encounters: Art Inspired by a Storied Earth invites visitors to explore the multiple dimensions of Coyote through the lens of Indigenous artists.

Following Coyote as he travels upriver, Coyote Encounters tell us how the world came to be the way it is and how we should interact with each other and the world around us. Stunning artwork featured in the exhibition depicts Coyote’s encounters along the Columbia River and the ways we continue to encounter Coyote today.

Through a partnership with Crow’s Shadow Institute of the Arts—a premier print studio that advances Native voices in contemporary fine art printmaking based in Pendleton, Oregon—the exhibition features prints by Indigenous artists, including Ellen Taylor, Ric Gendron, and Natalie Ball.

Alongside these prints, paintings, sculptures, baskets, and textiles portray Coyote across a range of mediums. By centering Coyote Encounters, these works reflect on Indigenous people’s relationships to this place and our own responsibilities to the world around us.
