Lecture with Else Vellinga: "Fascinating Mushroom Spores"

Date October 15, 2026
Time 6:30 PM

Mushrooms are all about spores - they produce them in dazzling numbers! They come in all kinds of sizes and shapes, some have to germinate right away, others can lay in the soil for years - Enjoy a talk featuring all the above, and much more!

Dr. Else Vellinga became interested in mushrooms when she was a masters student in the Netherlands in the eighties. She specialized in the taxonomy of parasol mushrooms, and is intrigued by everything we do not know about these organisms. She has been studying mushrooms ever since, spending the last 27 years in Berkely, California and has named 22 new species for California. Besides finding and studying mushroom, she loves to knit, and often uses mushroom dyes for her yarns.
