Wellness in Central Oregon

In many ways, health and wellness are part of everyday life in Central Oregon. We get into a meditative state while fishing in Central Oregon, strengthen our bodies while kayaking and canoeing, and nourish our souls with expansive views on epic hiking trails all over the region.

But your well-being isn’t limited to the natural world. In recent years, we’ve seen a growing number of juice bars, yoga studios, day spas, and other offerings that take creative approaches to living a healthy lifestyle and fully embrace a holistic view of wellness and self-care. Here’s a look at the many ways entrepreneurs, massage therapists, and chefs are promoting health and wellness in Central Oregon.

Health and Wellness in Bend

The fitness-minded city of Bend is awash in businesses designed to help maximize health and wellness—from juice bars to inventive fitness centers to creative yoga studios. So after enjoying the many things to do in Central Oregon, refresh and recharge with these outposts.

If you’re hungry or thirsty, you’ll find plenty of excellent outposts for light, yet filling meals; fresh juices; and hearty smoothies. Mother’s Juice Cafe, for instance, serves nutritious breakfast and lunch dishes (such as smoothies, sandwiches, wraps, salads, and bowls) that are crafted with local, organic ingredients whenever possible; juices, meanwhile, are made to order and typically feature Oregon-grown produce. For other healthy eats around town, Salud Live Kitchen boasts a fully gluten-free and organic menu chockablock with fresh-pressed juices, smoothies, and an eclectic food lineup that includes salads, nori rolls, tacos, and more.

If you’re looking for an activity that’s a bit more organized than, say, biking in Central Oregon, consider some of the many creative fitness classes around Bend. For instance, try your hand at full-body, aerial-based workouts through Central Oregon Aerial Arts. And if you’re interested in climbing, check out The Circuit Bouldering Gym on Bend’s east side; the spacious facility boasts more than 200 routes for climbers of all abilities, a full training area, yoga rooms, and a children’s area.

And given Bend’s affection for physical fitness, it’s no surprise a number of yoga studios have gained a foothold around town in recent years. We couldn’t begin to list them all, but a few stand out. Tula Movement Arts offers aerial yoga, circus-inspired aerial classes, prenatal yoga, classes for children and families, and even yoga sessions for mothers with babies. Bend Hot Yoga, meanwhile, specializes in yoga, Pilates, and other workouts in rooms that range from 70ºF to a sultry 105ºF. And Groove Yoga embraces a heart-pumping approach to the practice by teaching the flowy vinyasa yoga in classes set to upbeat music; in doing so, the studio offers a variety of classes to help students master their poses, focus on their breathing, and enjoy a shorter workout if pressed for time.
