EVERY BRILLIANT THING
Cathartic Laughter Illuminates the Shadow of Suicide
Mom’s in the hospital. Dad says she’s “done something stupid.” So, as a child wanting to help, you start a list of everything that’s brilliant and worth living for: #1. Ice cream. #2. Water fights. #3. Staying up past your bedtime. You leave it on her pillow, hoping. You add to the list throughout your life, remembering thousands of essential moments with humor and grace. This poignant and moving one-man-play is a tribute to resilience and hope— and a testament to the healing power of storytelling.
Bend’s Thoroughly Modern Production’s new division – Thoroughly Modern Rep – brings this memorable production to Central Oregon for only six shows December 17 through Jan. 4, playing At Liberty Art Collection on 1/3 and 1/4 at 7:30. Written by Duncan MacMillan, and later staged Off-Broadway and taped as an HBO special, “Every Brilliant Thing” is performed by David DaCosta, the founder and Artistic Director of TMP. With scores of directorial and supporting credits during his 20+ year theatrical career, DaCosta has also played lead roles in Shrek the Musical, Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods, Jekyll and Hyde, Oklahoma, Macbeth, Assassins, Cabaret, and Evita.
