Celebrate this State Park’s Day at The Cove. For as long as anyone can remember, many different people have visited and inhabited the Crooked River and Deschutes River Canyons of Central Oregon. The land and water brought people here, whether they hunted, trapped, fished, gathered or grew; the one common thing we’ve all come here for is food either directly or indirectly. This multicultural event looks at foods that brought and keep people in the Lake Billy Chinook area of Central Oregon. Jefferson County is a highly agricultural community with many long-time family farms and ranches. Visitors will have an opportunity to learn about The People of Warm Springs, Homesteaders, The Cove’s historic orchard - that once was the primary source of fresh fruit for sale in Central Oregon, local ranches and farms and see how OSU uses the land to learn best sustainable practices for the future. Last but not least a focus on the fish in Lake Billy Chinook (Don’t forget it’s free fishing weekend too) Families will enjoy a farmers market, animals, nature hikes, fun activities and games for kids, foods, and more.
