Join RAPRD for our 3rd Aviation Day event at the Redmond Fairgrounds on Sunday, September 29, 2019 from 11:00am–2:00pm. We are drawing on the skills of educators, local businesses, and industry organizations to give Redmond families a fun day of hands-on aviation experiences.
This free community event will include exciting demonstrations and activities for all ages. Volunteers from the aviation program at COCC will teach basic operation and safety and we will provide the drones for kids to learn with and flight simulators to try. Redmond’s Field of Dreams RC club will display their radio controlled aircraft and the drone experts from UAVSI will perform live demos (weather permitting). Redmond’s Aircraft Fire and Rescue team will show off their 90,000lb green aircraft rescue fire truck for kids to climb on and ask questions. The AirLink helicopter will land, let the kids climb around, and then take off again, as long as no emergencies tear them away. The Central Oregon STEM Hub will have a critical thinking challenge and the Young Eagles will talk about their program offering free flights for local kids. There will be aviation-related arts and crafts, and prizes.
The event will also feature booths manned by local non-profit organizations and aviation businesses. Run by passionate locals, these educational and industry booths will encourage kids’ curiosity about aviation and STEM careers and recreational activities in Central Oregon.
If you are interested in becoming an Aviation Day sponsor or vendor, please contact our Development Director, Margaret Maffai at 541-420-2461.
