The 2020 Census: Why It Matters & What to Expect

John Thompson, Former Director of the U.S. Census Bureau, will discuss why the 2020 Census results will be of great importance to our nation. The results will be used for reapportioning Congress and the Electoral College. They will also inform many other important functions of our country including: redrawing voting districts; allocating federal funds annually; informing policy development; providing critical information for state, local and tribal government planning; and supplying vital information to businesses to generate growth and jobs. The presentation will take place at Central Oregon Community College, Wille Hall, Coats Campus Center, COCC Bend.

Inaccuracies or errors in the 2020 Census will have grave consequences for the subsequent 10-year period. Thompson will give a high-level description of Census methodology and discuss issues and potential problems ahead of the 2020 Census.
