From the ancient Greeks to present day, light has been the primary scientific tool helping us understand our universe. From the simple experiments performed 300 BCE to estimate the diameter of Earth, to the work of Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo and Newton in the 16th and 17th centuries to explain planetary motion, to the work of 20th-century scientists Einstein, Hubble and others in the development and validation of the Big Bang theory. This talk will explore what we know about light, the scientists who studied it, how it has revealed the nature of our universe.
