About McMenamins Old St. Francis School

The McMenamins Old St. Francis School, conveniently located in the center of downtown Bend, has undergone a transformation from 1936 Catholic schoolhouse to lively destination hotel. The Property features classrooms-turned-lodging rooms, a pub, brewery and bakery, a movie theater, private meeting and event space and a truly fantastic soaking pool that beckons day travelers, shoppers, hikers, skiers and snowboarders alike.

Lodging

60 richly appointed hotel rooms are spread across the property with 19 located in the main lodge and 41 rooms available in the recently opened Art House and Education House. Additionally, the Parish House has five rooms and is available for groups of up to 10 people. The guestrooms at Old St. Francis School feature televisions, telephones, internet access for laptop users and private bathrooms with showers.

Overnight guests can also enjoy complimentary use of the mosaic-tiled soaking pool and free admission to the movie theater.

Movie Theater

Tucked away in the former parish hall of the old Catholic school is a place much more comfortable to sit than a hard wooden pew. The Old St. Francis School Theater, with seating for up to 150, offers visitors the chance to settle into an overstuffed chair or sofa and watch a recent release, cult classic or sporting event while enjoying a slice of pizza and a handcrafted McMenamins ale.

Weddings & Events

We have both indoor and outdoor event spaces, accommodating up to 140 guests – so if you’re just in from the ski slopes, we have plenty of warm fireplaces and cozy bars. But if you’re hot-weather hikers or sunbathers, you might want to have your event on one of our many patios festooned with lush flora beneath the sun or the stars. The Old St. Francis School is one of the most charming venues in all of central Oregon – it will leave you and your guests with wonderful memories.

Artwork

Photos, memorabilia and students’ artwork adorn the walls, making the hotel a unique gallery of sorts. Take special note of the colorful orbs that punctuate the high wooden fencing around the property, the unusual custom-made light fixtures and absolutely stunning tile mosaics that surround the soaking pool.

In the Art House, which opened August 2016, 24 guest rooms feature a unique headboard and painted wall panel created by a single McMenamins artist, honoring the dozens of McMenamins artists’ that work behind the scenes to bring McMenamins properties to life through original paintings and murals.
