The Oregon Observatory at Sunriver- Billions and billions of sights to see. When our roofs disappear we have the largest collection of telescopes for public viewing in the United States.

Sunriver’s elevation, pitch-dark surroundings, and crystal clear air make it perfect for stargazing. At the Oregon Observatory, you won’t be lining up just for one quick peek. We have many of our telescopes set up for your enjoyment, from Tele Vue refractors to our 30-inch Newtonian.

Our hands-on activities, programs and exhibits fit easily into a weekend vacation. Our staff of naturalists will keep your kids curiously engaged and provide an exciting new perspective on the natural world. The Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory is a non-profit, educational organization. But you don’t have to tell the kids that! We’re funded in part by the Second Tern Thrift Shop, located on Spring River road just a mile west of Sunriver.
The Sunriver Nature Center and Oregon Observatory features a large scale public observatory providing hands on experience with stargazing in addition to interpretive exhibits, live birds-of-prey, amphibians and snakes, meteorite exhibit, educational programs, botanical garden, a nature trail and Astronomy Store featuring a complete line of telescopes.
Open Tues-Sat, 10am – 4pm from September through May with special Winter Observatory hours and events seasonally. Private Star Parties available. The Oregon Observatory is the largest astronomical viewing facility in the United States.
