Complete your Black Butte Ranch vacation with a trail ride at the Black Butte Stables. We welcome all levels of riders from beginners, intermediate and Advanced. Our healthy and happy horses are ready to take you out on one of these scenic forest trail rides.
This ride has a nice, comfortable pace. Those who are able to maintain their seat may have a chance for some trotting. Everyone in his or her group must also have that ability. Our trail meanders through Aspen and Pine groves, over Indian Ford Creek along a beaver pond.
An exciting and challenging ride. Trot along a trail lined with manzanita, and a variety of wild flowers. This ride crosses Indian Ford Creek and travels around Glaze Meadow with big mountain views. Trotting experience is required for this ride.
Black Butte Pack Services Offers
We offer All Day Rides, a Photo Safari, Drop Camps, Deluxe Tent Drop Camps, Guided Fishing Trips and Game Retrieval. You can visit the mountains by hoof or heel! Black Butte Pack Services are ready to take you on a spectacular scenic adventure. Advanced reservations required.
Black Butte Stables operates under a special use permit with the Deschutes National Forest, and is an equal opportunity outdoor recreation service provider.

Long Hollow Ranch is a historical jewel in Central Oregon. The main buildings go as far back more than 100 years. They have been beautifully and comfortably updated. The main guesthouse has 5 guest rooms, each with private bath. The Cottage is the repurposed previous stage stop and cowboy commissary. Whilst the Homestead House our most recent guest venue is the authentic ranch house which goes back to the 1890’s. The Long Hollow Ranch was headquarters for the Black Butte Land and Livestock Company during the early 20th century. The main house was the head office building to the company that was made up of 5 huge ranches. One being the current Black Butte Ranch.
Long Hollow Ranch is a wonderful location to host large group events. Our guest accommodations make the ranch an intimate, special place for a small group retreat, reunion, or family gathering. For more information regarding your family, organization or business group event, please contact us!

Enjoy an exciting day of horseback riding in Central Oregon. The Stables at Seventh Mountain Resort offers a number of equestrian activities for riders of all ages. Experience the scenic landscape of Bend and the Deschutes Natural Forest from the perspective of one of nature’s most stunningly beautiful creatures.
Half-Hour Trail Ride: $35 | A walking ride into the Deschutes National Forest.
Hours of departure: 10 a.m., 11:45 a.m., 2:30 p.m.</p.
One Hour Trail Ride: $55 | This walk and trotting trail ride will take you into the Deschutes National forest where you will explore a trial forested with ancient Ponderosas. Depending on the season it’s not unusual to see deer, bald eagles and even a coyote. Whether you’re an experienced rider or you’ve never been horseback riding before your wrangler will help you feel comfortable. Throughout your ride you will lay your eyes on the amazing Central Oregon High Desert.
Hours of departure: 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 2 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 4 p.m.
Two Hour Trail Ride: $74 | This is our most popular ride. It’s considered the BEST in Central Oregon! This walking and trotting ride takes you thru the forest to the beautiful Deschutes River. This scenic trail exposes you to a lave flow and a bald eagles nest, keeping the scenery ever changing.

Smith Rock Trail Rides – Are Ready for an adventure? Enjoy riding under Monkey Face along the Crooked River on one of the most beautiful private ranches in Oregon “Ranch at the Canyons”. Smith Rock Trail Rides are guided by a professional with experienced trail horses. All rides will include a photo shoot, so bring your camera. Any other questions about your ride can be discussed at time of reservation. “Ranch Vista Ride” (45 minutes to 1 hour) this is a relaxed ride on the upper trails of the Ranch enjoy the spectacular vistas of Smith Rock and the Cascade Mountains. “Canyon Ride” (approximate 2 hour ride) this ride will take you into the Canyon at the base of iconic Monkey Face winding along the Crooked River through meadow lands and below some of the most spectacular rock formations. “Rooster Cogburn Ride” (approximately 4 hours) this exciting ride will take you into the canyons for a ride below Monkey Face along the Crooked River and into Red Rock Canyon. The Ranch has been featured in many Hollywood Movies including Rooster Cogburn, go back in time and picture yourself riding with John Wayne along the sparkling Crooked River. Sunriver Stables is the perfect place to saddle up for adventure. Guided trail rides are available for guests of all experience levels, as well as pony rides for the little buckaroos ages 2-6. Horseback riding lessons are also available for those who want to learn the basics of grooming and saddling, or who just want to polish up their riding skills!

No matter your ability level, The Stables at Eagle Crest Resort provides everything from pony rides for our youngest guests, multi-hour trail rides for the more advanced, and plenty of experiences in between. We also love to have guests just come by the stables, up on The Ridge, to say hello and meet the horses. Here you’ll find head wrangler Chris Buller, his team of experienced wranglers, and plenty of beautiful horses waiting to take you and your family on an authentic horseback ride.
When you arrive, you’ll be taught about the horses, and when you are ready, you’ll head out on the trails. But don’t expect the ordinary riding experience that is offered at most Central Oregon resorts. At The Stables At Eagle Crest, the wranglers are happy to customize rides as requested. Unless special arrangements are made, we keep our groups at 8 or fewer rides.
Individual lessons and personalized instruction are available by appointment. Whether you are an experienced rider or a beginner, we have appropriate horses and instructors at the ready.

The Big Desert Loop
