Farewell Bend sits just south of the Old Mill District shopping district and along the banks of the Deschutes River—showcasing a little of everything that makes the Bend outdoor scene so special.
The park’s long, narrow design means you’re never far from the Deschutes River—no matter which of the park’s activities you’re enjoying.
A paved, wheelchair-accessible path provides access to the South Canyon Reach portion of the Deschutes River Trail—a popular trip with local hikers; the same path also heads north to the Old Mill District. Little ones, meanwhile, enjoy playing on a lumber mill-inspired playground that pays tribute to the city’s industrial history. Nearby, a climbing and bouldering wall lets kids of all ages burn a little energy.
Hungry? Bring a quick bite to one of the park’s covered picnic tables. For an up-close view of the Deschutes, follow a pier that heads onto the river. On a warm afternoon, splash about in the shallow shoreline—or put in your paddlecraft from the park’s boat launch area. Interpretive panels, meanwhile, dot the park and discuss Bend’s history as a lumber-mill town.
