Fly Fishing

Central Oregon is an angler’s paradise for so many reasons, including its abundant population of native trout. The lower Deschutes is one of the best-known destinations for fly fishing, with Wild Trout and Steelhead populations topping more than 3,500 trout per mile.

Of course, there’s also the middle Deschutes, which runs from Bend’s north end to Lake Billy Chinook, and the upper Deschutes, flowing from Little Lava Lake to Bend’s city limits. Together, these 250 miles of streams offer several opportunities to cast some flies.

If you’re staying in the southern part of the region, Fall River is a popular spot for its proximity to the Fall River Hatchery, which produces rainbow trout among other species. Still, you can’t go wrong with a guided fly fishing tour. Fly and Field Outfitters takes anglers on all-inclusive guided fly fishing tours, including private group outings from the Lava Lakes to the lower Deschutes.

Join Sisters-based The Fly Fisher’s Place for more than 20 different outing options, or take a group lesson with River Borne Outfitters. In need of some fishing gear on the… fly?
